Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units Selects Executive Director

Harrisburg, PA— The Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units (PAIU) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Leidy as its new Executive Director. Dr. Leidy will begin transitioning to his new role on July 1, 2024, and will assume full-time responsibilities on August 12, 2024. Dr. Leidy brings a wealth of educational experience and a strong vision for positioning the PAIU as a continued vital resource to the education community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Mark Leidy as the next Executive Director of the PAIU,” said Dr. Andria Saia, President of the PAIU Board of Directors. “We are confident that Dr. Leidy is the right person to lead the PAIU successfully. His extensive experience, proven leadership, and deep understanding of the educational landscape in Pennsylvania will be invaluable as we continue to support and advance the work of our Intermediate Units across the state.”

With over 30 years of dedicated service in various educational leadership roles, Dr. Leidy has consistently demonstrated his commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for all students. He has served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Mechanicsburg Area School District since 2010, where his innovative approach and collaborative spirit have significantly contributed to the district’s success. Previously, Dr. Leidy served as Assistant Superintendent from 2005 to 2010 and as High School Principal from 2003 to 2005, both roles at the Mechanicsburg Area School District. His experience also includes serving as Secondary Principal at Fannett-Metal School District from 1999 to 2003 and as a teacher, administrator, and coach at Chambersburg Area School District from 1993 to 2003.

Dr. Leidy earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Duquesne University and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Shippensburg University. He serves on several boards, including the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA) Board of Governors and Statewide Advocacy Committee, the Penn School Safety Institute (Penn SSI) Board of Advisors, the University of Pennsylvania Center for Study Councils Advisory Board, and the Shippensburg University School Study Council Advisory Board and College of Education and Human Services Advisory Board. Born and raised in Bedford County, Dr. Leidy attributes his experiences and formative education to the development of his career goal, which is to help students realize their potential.

“I am honored and excited to join the PAIU as the Executive Director," said Dr. Leidy. "I look forward to working closely with the PAIU Board of Directors, the talented team at the PAIU, and key external stakeholders to further our mission of providing exceptional educational services and support to schools and communities throughout Pennsylvania.”

The Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units congratulates Dr. Mark Leidy on his appointment and looks forward to his leadership in advancing the organization’s mission.
