Opening Session Keynote Speaker

In their keynote inspired by When You Wonder, You’re Learning, authors Gregg Behr and Ryan Rydzewski invite participants into a fresh understanding of Fred Rogers—not just as a beloved television figure, but as an ingenious educator and scientist whose methods were decades ahead of their time. Drawing from the research behind Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, they reveal how Rogers intentionally designed every element of his program to nurture children’s curiosity, creativity, emotional well-being, and capacity for learning.

Gregg and Ryan show how these same “tools for learning”—now known to be more predictive of long-term success than test scores—can be cultivated in any school, classroom, or community, often at little to no cost. Through an engaging, warm, and practical blend of stories, science, music, and nostalgia, Gregg and Ryan reconnect adults with the simple, powerful strategies Fred Rogers used to help children thrive. They empower educators to build modern “neighborhoods” of their own, grounded in belonging, emotional safety, and authentic relationships.
