Three Phase Plan for Intermediate Unit Leaders

Phase 1 | Get Organized | April 4-29

1. Register by April 8

  • Please register each attendee so we can properly plan for space and refreshments.
  • Visit the PAIU website to see Educators Advocacy Day on the Hill details

2. Why Advocate?

  • Educate legislators and their staff to help them better understand the work and value of Pennsylvania’s 29 intermediate units.
  • Educate legislators and their staff on the work and value of their local intermediate unit overall and within Pennsylvania’s educational structure.
  • Increased ability to make progress on PAIU's legislative priorities with a united message.
  • Build positive relationships through education and storytelling.

3. Schedule Legislative Meetings

  • IU Executive Directors/Leaders should coordinate local teams to meet with their legislators. Registration lists will be provided around April 8 and updated periodically as we work with our partner organizations to increase participation.
  • MEETING TRACKER - Please use the appropriate tabs to enter legislator meeting times, locations, and other notes.

4. Know Your Message / Talking Points

  • Joint Advocacy Talking Points – PAIU/PASA/PA Principals
    These are the joint requests of our education leaders as part of passing an on-time budget package that would keep appropriate funding flowing to schools without disruption.
  • Prepare Local IU Leave Behind Documents (Optional)

5. Attend Virtual Briefing | April 25, 2024, 10:00 a.m.

Phase 2 | Advocacy in Action | April 30

1. Attend Day on the Hill with Your Team

  • 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., briefing starts at 8:00 a.m.
  • IUs to lead regional teams with PASA, PA Principals participants. Attendee lists will be shared for coordination of local meeting teams.

Phase 3 | Bring It Home | May 1-10

1. Individual IUs Send Thank You Letters to Legislators
